We were contacted by a homeowner right around the beginning of 2021 regarding a heated concrete driveway estimate. Heated concrete driveways are not a common thing, even in Denver. They are quite the investment and sometimes they cannot even be installed (due to restrictions with electrical). So each one of these projects has to be researched and planned for the best execution.
With a heated driveway, there are a couple of different types of systems. For this project we elected to work with Warmly Yours. Why Warmly Yours?
Warmly Yours Heated Driveways
The team at Warmly Yours is easy to work with. We imagine that would be the case for individual homeowners as well. In our case, we were able to work with a heated driveway expert who was able to give us an initial quote over the phone right away.
Although our principals have experience with heated driveways, for Denver Concrete Inc this driveway was the first where we installed Warmly Yours electric heated driveway system.

This homeowner is retiring here in Denver, and so on top of installing a new concrete driveway, she decided to give the entire front of the home a face lift. So along with the heated driveway, the customer replaced her front stoop and front walk as well. These installations were not heated and the driveway was the only heated portion of this installation.
Heated Driveway Takes Planning and Special Precaution
Warmly Yours electric heated driveway mats are not to be stepped on during the installation of the new concrete driveway. This makes it near impossible for the crew to work on the concrete in the traditional manner that they are accustomed to. As a matter of fact with this system, it was critical during installation that the crew take extra caution to not walk or step on any of the grid that was placed. Our crew leader figured out the best way to protect the heat mats was to lay them out (roll them out) one at a time and pour over each row.
Denver Concrete Inc planned the project so that the crew would lay down a "rat slab" and then ultimately roll the heating mats out one at a time. Since our crew has their own pump, the extra time that this pour took was not an issue.
Above, the crew has prepared the base of the new concrete pour. The forms have been set, the driveway regraded and the reinforcement grid has been set.
In the photo above, the crew has completed all the preparation work and you can see the heating mats have been rolled and placed at the right of the driveway as it is formed in the photo. The crew has already wired the mats and tested them. Denver Concrete Inc keeps an electrician onsite during the concrete pour to test each element before, during and after the concrete pour. We know just how much of an investment our customer has made into this system and we definitely want to make sure we do this kind of project once!
In addition to being completely prepared, the pump is on standby as well and the whole crew is just waiting for the barrel truck to arrive.
Heated Concrete Driveway Installation
In the time lapse below, you can see the crew pour and finish the entire heated driveway in just under 3 minutes. Here in the video, we can see the crew place the "rat slab" first. This slab was the best option as opposed to placing wire mesh on top of the reinforcement grid that the crew has placed. The reasoning for not using wire mesh was concern that the mesh just might disturb or even damage one of the mats. Since we want to have the heating element in the middle of the driveway, we believe the best way to pour the mats in was to roll the mats one at a time over the rat slab and then pour over the mats.
For this concrete pour, our crew poured 4.25" thick concrete. We placed the reinforcement at 2" and supported that grid with chairs. The concrete ad-mixture was air entrained 4,000 psi concrete. The crew cut control joints every 8' on center with a broom finish on each stone in opposing directions.

This project was completed at the end of last season (July 2018). The customer wanted to replace the existing deck with a stamped concrete patio. Not only was the deck to be torn out and replaced with a slate colored and textured patio, but the patio was going to extend around the side of the house where eventually a hot tub would reside. The new proposed concrete patio would have two new landings that would be formed and poured at each of the back entries (one sliding rear door as well as one other regular door) with half-moon landings and steps that would land onto the patio. A couple of challenges with the project is that there is limited access to the back yard with equipment, so this means that the grading of the new patio would need to be completed with out the use of heavy equipment. Additionally there would be some other "regular concrete" that needs to be poured and finished same day, so the colored concrete for the patio would have to be added into the batch aft
Denver Concrete Inc., was hired to excavate, form and install an extension on this already existing patio. The total extension to be added is 11' x 1.5'. Perhaps one of the most frustrating things about approaching any concrete contractor in Denver is talking with them ( concrete contractor ) about smaller projects.
